Beyond Berklee college of music, what other schools offer a more contemporary style? I need back-ups!?

Although I am in the process of applying to Berklee, I am still searching for other schools that offer a course of study that suits my goals. I am highly opposed to the classical style of music taught by most conservatories. Are there other schools out there that offer a more contemporary style (not strictly jazz either) that I can consider?

Cornish Institute in Seattle may be to your liking – some great teachers there, as well as North Texas State and San Francisco State.

My MUSIC CONSERVATORY. Please Help.?

I am in a music conservatory for voice. The conservatory is not good, it is very disorganized and it does not give me performance opportunities I need to make it in this world. My teacher has changed my voice, but because of the lack of performance opportunities I fear singing on stage. What should I do. Are there any performance opportunities for people who want to gain more experience with Broadway and Opera? New York. Advice?
How can I face my fear of auditions?!!! This is why I am attending this crappy college.

Transfer to another school. Don’t waste your time at a school that doesn’t have the opportunities that you want.

Several schools have great opera/music theater programs. Go visit and see what you think. Look to see what kind of opportunities you’ll have.

Is it a good idea to study music in Argentina to save money?

Instead of getting into expensive music conservatories or colleges here in California, Tennessee, NYC, USA in general, I’m thinking of going into a music school for guitar in Buenos Aires because I have some friends over there and I know it’s cheaper then here, and since I want to become a BETTER musician and song writer (Artist) not too much of a “titled” musician ….. Does any1 have any tip for this approach? Would I survive with an Argentinean job to live abroad or should i really save up money then go for like 3 years? Thanks!

There are 2 excellent places in Argentina where you can study music,
Universidad Catolica Argentina, which is the Catholic University. They have a broad variety of careers in music and performance, and the TEMA (arts and music school) where you can choose among varied courses, like, Piano, guitar, Sax, Flute, harmonica, bass, violin, viola, bandoneon, double bass, singing, drums. Tango,jazz & blues, folklore, classic music.

You can find excellent teachers almost anywhere, just do some research before.
Ah! And remember Argentina was heavily influenced by the German and Italian culture, so they should have great careers in arts.

Free Attractions in Las Vegas

Las Vegas is an expensive city to visit. With casinos, expensive shows, rides, restaurants and everything else that’s available it can get expensive fast. What self respecting Vegas visitor would ever pay full price if they didn’t have to? There are tons of free events and places to visit.

The Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens is just one these “free” places to visit. Your senses are stimulated as you see the sights and inhale the fragrance of the flowers. Each season offers new delights to the senses and because there is NO admission fee, you just can’t pass the opportunity up

That amazing display is the fountains of Bellagio! The water shows consist of more than 1000 fountains that shoot water up in unison with music; the lights go off as well. They have an endless variety of songs so check back often, every half hour or so after 3pm on weekdays and noon on weekends you can see this spectacle in person

Another place is Sam’s Town Hotel and Gambling Hall. The show consists of lasers and water and is done daily at 2:00, 6:00, 8:00, and 10:00. It takes place in a 9-story building and has a mix of natural habitat, live trees, greenery, waterfalls, and trails built throughout.

The Aquarium at the Silverton Hotel and Casino is also totally free and features saltwater and freshwater fish in their natural habitats. Everyone is sure to enjoy this exotic attraction, not only is it educational, it’s fun and relaxing

Circus Circus is also a free show and great for the whole family, different acts are performed at each show and they take place every half hour daily between 11 am and midnight. The thrills of a circus are a great way to spend an afternoon

The Sirens of Ti is a great show at Treasure Island Hotel & Casino. Playing daily, weather permitting, this show is great for kids of all ages. With pirates, sea battles and adventures, this exciting show will captivate everyone.

The Masquerade Show in the Sky, is a free show to watch, the floats are whimsically displayed as if they were floating in the sky. If you want to participate by riding one of the floats, the cost is $13.00. The floats are suspended from the ceiling and this is considered the best free show in Vegas

Free entertainment is often the best entertainment that can be found. You can’t beat the value of it. Vegas can be a very expensive city to visit especially if you don’t choose your adventures wisely. Besides taking advantage of all the free stuff to do during the day and early evening will make it possible for you to use the money that you saved on the tables!

Hard time deciding music schools?

I have exactly a month to decide where I want to go to school, and since I am having a hard time deciding what to do, I thought I would ask around. I have been accepted into the Vocal Performance program at all of the schools that I applied for, which are as follows: Oberlin Conservatory (Oberlin, OH), Boston Conservatory (Boston, MA), and Roosevelt Conservatory (CCPA-Chicago, IL). Which one should I choose?

I am a professional vocal director, and I am FROM Boston, altho I live close to NYC now. Oberlin is the best school of these three – can CONGRATS on your acceptance to then all!!! Boston in NO a *short train ride* away from Tanglewood (you gotta drive – it’s about 3 hours) – and there is not really much for you there to study unless you get into the Boston UNIVERSITY (different school) Tanglewood Summer Institute. Oberlin is VERY competitive, but if you have come THIS far, you are READY for that. If there are other factors that affect your decision, then you will be GREAT at all 3 – I can understand your indecision! Boston is a FABULOUS city for the arts – so is Chicago. Perhaps your decision is also based on scholarship assistance, housing costs,etc – which makes this ever harder for you. Your single biggest factor will be the private teacher you are with, and then the opportunities they can provide for you in vocal productions. I am sorry that my answer is not more clear-cut, but we ALL go thru this – my son (now 28) had to go thru it as a pianist ans basso – he decided upon Temple U in Philadelphia, since we are often in Boston and NYC anyway for performances, and he wanted to try another artistic city. I am sure that wherever you land, youwill do fine – please let us know your decision!
